Ratio Dada Kitchen: rigor and elegance
The contemporary modular kitchens of Vincent Van Duysen express the best of functionality and refinement of modern design
The Ratio Dada kitchen is the newest creation of designer Vincent Van Duysen, creative director of the Molteni&C | Dada brand. Designed in 2018 and recently presented at the 2019 Milan Design Week, Ratio immediately shows itself as an original and innovative architectural solution that transforms the kitchen into a 100% living space.
After the success of VVD in 2016, this creation represents the new frontier of technological research carried out by the Belgian designer, who has fine-tuned the compositional features of the kitchen using inspiration from buildings. In his latest kitchen, therefore, the undisputed protagonist of the new space is the architectural structure, which makes it stand out from other contemporary modular kitchens through its interweaving of impeccable volumes which alternate full spaces with aerial geometries.
The Ratio kitchen by Dada is a modular kitchen composed of modules which placed in various sequences, create a welcoming and extremely elegant environment. The linear compositions, typical of the more traditional contemporary modular kitchens, can be combined as desired to angular solutions, central islands, accessory furniture, innovative washing and cooking solutions, and snack bars; to which basic elements such as columns, cupboards, hoods, and accessories can be added. Each element is perfectly integrated with the other parts of the kitchen to meet any space requirement and to satisfy the most sophisticated clientele in an impeccable manner.
"The kitchen is based on two layers: the structural layer, formed by the pillars, and the surface layer," says Van Duysen. "The play of vertical and horizontal lines gives the product a very architectural expression, characterized by the sweeping lines of the vertical pillars and the doors and rear surfaces."
As the designer says, what characterizes Ratio's aesthetics is the interaction between vertical and horizontal lines which give the product a surprisingly architectural look. The metal grids form an elegant alternation of full and empty volumes, where shelves of different thicknesses are attached to the subtle structural elements, creating an elegant game of balance.
In addition to the innovative compositional structure, another characteristic of Ratio is the extremely sought-after materials with which the various parts are composed.
In each module, precious metal elements (such as aluminum and bronze) are combined with refined materials such as Mooreiche oak or black palm wood.
The wood varieties are masterfully alternated with natural stone components such as silk georgette marble or Rapolano travertine.
This composition of elements creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that conjures Mediterranean colors and atmospheres, so dear to the Belgian designer.
His passion for Italian environments blends with the strong Nordic imprinting revealed in the minimalist rigor of his architectural and interior design creations, giving his spaces a modern and highly original aura that sets all his creations apart from classic kitchens.
If at first glance the sophisticated refinement of each space is what catches the eye, then revealed immediately after is the perfect synthesis between impeccable design and practical innovation that makes this kitchen a place to live.
